London Critical Theory Summer School

Birkbeck College, University of London

The London Critical Theory Summer School is a two week Summer School held at Birkbeck, University of London. It is a unique opportunity for graduate students and academics to follow a course of study with internationally renowned critical thinkers. The aim of the course is to foster exchange and debate and consists of at least 6 modules over the two weeks, each convened by one of the participating academics. It is housed in the Institute for the Humanities that seeks to:

  • engage with important public issues of our time through a series of open debates, lectures, seminars and conferences;
  • foster and promote a climate of interdisciplinary research and collaboration among academics and researchers;
  • promote new ideas and forms of understanding in the humanities;
  • provide short-term fellowships for a small number of scholars from Britain and overseas, chosen in open competition;
  • invite prominent writers, broadcasters and public figures to spend short periods at the Institute; and
  • engage the highly rated Birkbeck Humanities research departments in cross-disciplinary work.
