Comment s’en sortir ?

Comment s’en sortir? (CSS) is an internationally oriented French peer-reviewed scientific journal. The journal is managed by an editorial board, assisted by an appointed review board, and supported by an advisory board made up of acknowledged researchers.

It aims to generate feminist and queer perspectives on and within philosophy, political theory, and gender studies as well as Marxist atudies, gay, lesbian, and trans studies, and postcolonial and cultural studies.

CSS joins a tradition of thought inherited from critical theory and is committed to posing anew Sarah Kofman’s question: “How to get out of this?” (Comment s’en sortir?, Paris, Galilée, 1983) .

As aporias undermine the dichotomies produced by dominant scientific cultures (theoretical/empirical, subjective/objective, natural/cultural, biological/social, given/made, modern/postmodern, western/other, material/performative), CSS attests to the promethean and highly political nature of thought, even if this means contradicting established methods, the positivity of facts or data, and metaphysics. While working on the negative, on doubt, on deconstruction, or on critical argument, we also seek to bear witness to the generativity and the tactical inventiveness of the concept, to joyful practices of the “we,” to the emergence of political lives and minority economies, agencies, and utopias. CSS is a site for the convergence texts, experiments, and encounters, where documents — whether original or translated — contribute to (re)drawing and relating paths from situated perspectives. These paths are not ways out but rather genealogies, simultaneously toolboxes and arsenals from which to draw the strength, commitments, and resources necessary to traverse intimate conflicts, political struggles, and social antagonisms, present as well forthcoming. In CSS, the becoming-subject of those who are usually warned, subjugated, and seen as mute objects of discourse and knowledge is at stake.

CSS is an open access e-journal.
