Critical Nationalisms and Counter Publics
University of British Columbia, Vancouver
Critical Nationalisms and Counterpublics is a research network devoted to the critical assessment of the intersection of nation-state and personal habitus, including the following: race, sexuality, gender, indigeneity, religious identity, and class. We are housed in Arts/Criticality/Theory (A/C/T), a research network at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and affiliated with the Institute for Social Justice, UBC. Dina Al-Kassim is the PI and contact person. We launch grants bids and program and plan events, workshops, panels, seminars, and lectures in collaboration with our local partners and the wider arts community. One example is a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Connection-funded conference “Critical Nationalisms and Counter Publics” (March 2019) with an international roster of speakers and artists.
