M.A. in Literature, Culture, and Theory
University of Sussex
This M.A. program reflects the diverse and wide-ranging research and teaching interests of the School of English. The program’s design allows students either to focus their study on a specific period or concept of literature, or to engage broadly with writing and cultural and theoretical ideas across a wide historic range. Students can combine specialist study in literature written before 1900, contemporary theoretical inquiry, and interdisciplinary investigations into literature and visual culture, or literature and history according to their particular interests. Core modules engage with current theoretical ideas and conceptual methods that underpin research in literature and help equip students for further study and research inside and outside the academy.
Note: this program integrates the former M.A. in Critical Theory. Also, Sussex currently offers M.A. courses in creative and critical writing, sexual dissidence, literature and philosophy, and modern and contemporary literature, all of which engage contemporary theory.
