Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory

University of Belgrade

The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade is engaged in systematic and long term research in the fields of philosophy and social theory. Each theorist and researcher in the institute endeavors to further the development of his or her respective field of study. Our fields include philosophical anthropology, social theory, the history of ideas, the history of philosophy, the philosophy of science, the philosophy of language, bioethics, the sociology of religion, political philosophy, epistemology, ethics, social anthropology, political sociology, and the sociology of science, among others. Significantly, each of member of our institute also strives to contextualize scientific trends in Serbia and the world in an interdisciplinary way. Our research fellows are also employed as teachers in humanities departments of universities in Serbia and the region. The institute pays special attention and devotes considerable energy to engaging young and talented people, as well as to establishing a dialogue with the larger scientific community through the organization of gatherings, workshops, and lectures. In addition to its primary scientific and research work – done through project cycles – the institute has a strong publishing house. The texts published in the magazine Philosophy and Society, as well as all the books that come out of the institute, follow the editorial and scientific policies of the institute and are peer reviewed and edited.
