Minor in Critical Theory
The American University of Paris
The minor provides a focus and meeting point for students – primarily in our majors in literature, art history, history, political science, gender studies and philosophy – who have an interest in critical theory. We define critical theory as (1) applied continental philosophy without necessary recourse to the history of philosophy; (2) cultural studies with critical application; and (3) a space for reflection on the principles of gender theory, theories of race and identity, and queer theory in its various forms. The minor helps students to identify some key points of overlap between the existing curricula of departments and disciplines that address the concerns listed above.
