Kritika Kultura publishes articles that foreground new theoretical and methodological approaches in literary, language, and cultural studies, including but not limited to areas such as diaspora studies, postcolonial studies, translation studies, cinema studies, memory studies, nesology, world literature, ecocriticism, queer studies, tropical modernity, and animal studies.

Kritika Kultura was established by Maria Luisa Torres Reyes in 2002 at the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines); the journal remains interested in examining emergent literary and cultural texts, as well as the practices and politics which condition their production and dissemination. Kritika Kultura is committed to opening up and fostering discourses from the Global South, including, but not limited to, Philippine literature; Filipino-American literature; Asian literature, particularly in Southeast, South, and East Asia; African literature; and Latin  American literature.

Special sections by guest editors have been on the following themes: new Philippine writing; the contemporary Philippine essay; Pantayong Pananaw; radical theater and Ireland; Philippine theater and martial law; transnationalism and interdisciplinarity in Philippine Studies; the South African novel; Manila by night; Philippine literature in Spanish; Chinese diaspora in the Philippines; performance and domination; Christianity and nation in Southeast Asia; Nora Aunor and the star system; arts, peace, and conflict; manga culture and critique; the places of E. San Juan, Jr.; archipelagic intermediality; Hallyu in and for Asia; textual mobilities; and the localization and globalization of Hallyu.

Apart from journal publication, Kritika Kultura also hosts events such as a lecture series, literary reading series and book fora. The journal also organizes international conferences and summer critical writing workshops.
