History of Knowledge Center (ZGW) Affiliation and Guest Program
History of Knowledge Center/ Zentrum Geschichte des Wissens
ETH Zurich and University of Zurich
1) Scholarly affiliations
Currently, the History of Knowledge Center (Zentrum Geschichte des Wissens [ZGW]) faculty comprises twelve professors from the University of Zurich and seven professors from the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) Zurich. At the moment the associated faculty consists of 32 members. We bring together expertise in theoretical and practical philosophy, literary and cultural as well as historical science (history of science, art, medicine, architecture, technology, and global history) to create a strong interdisciplinary, internationally oriented research group. The ZGW also sponsors a master and a doctoral program.
2) Academic Guest Program
In 2011, we introduced a new academic guest program. Each year we invite two to four colleagues to stay at our center for one month during the spring or fall semester. We are interested in inspiring intellectual exchange in Zurich in the field of the history of knowledge. During their stay, our guests are invited to contribute to our ongoing debates by offering special workshops, lectures, and/or other public forums.
3) Guest Professorship in Science and Jewish Culture
The Guest Professorship in Science and Jewish Culture was introduced in 2010. It focuses mainly on two fields of research: the general history and philosophy of science and the relation of science to society, religion, and culture, first and foremost Jewish culture. We are especially interested in the formation and interpretation of sciences in Jewish culture since early modernity, as well as the scientific understanding of Jewish culture itself and how it emerged in the context of new scientific models, including, for example, the paradigm of Jewish studies.
